چکیده

Andreas Schäfer Universität Regensburg, Institut für Physik, 93040 Regensburg, Germany E-mail: [email protected] We systematically compare three filtering methods used to extract topological excitations from lattice gauge configurations, namely smearing, Laplace filtering and the filtered fermionic topological charge (with chirally improved fermions). Each of these techniques introduces ambiguities, like its parameter dependence. We show, however, that all these methods can be tuned to each other over a broad range of filtering levels and that they reveal very similar topological structures. For these common structures we find an interesting power-law relating the number and packing fraction of clusters of filtered topological charge.

Quantitative comparison of filtering methods in lattice QCD

We systematically compare filtering methods used to extract topological excitations (like instantons, calorons, monopoles and vortices) from lattice gauge configurations, namely APE-smearing and spectral decompositions based on lattice Dirac and Laplace operators. Each of these techniques introduces ambiguities, which can invalidate the interpretation of the results. We show, however, that all ...

Analytic smearing of SU(3) link variables in lattice QCD

An analytic method of smearing link variables in lattice QCD is proposed and tested. The differentiability of the smearing scheme with respect to the link variables permits the use of modern Monte Carlo updating methods based on molecular dynamics evolution for gauge-field actions constructed using such smeared links. In examining the smeared mean plaquette and the static quark-antiquark potent...

Cooling , smearing and Dirac eigenmodes - A comparison of filtering methods in lattice gauge theory a

Starting from thermalized quenched SU(2) configurations we apply cooling or iterated smearing, respectively, to produce sequences of gauge configurations with less and less fluctuations. We compute the low lying spectrum and eigenmodes of the lattice Dirac operator and compare them for the two types of smoothing. Many characteristic properties of the eigensystem remain invariant for all configu...

A decay width calculation for a hybrid exotic meson h, with J = 1, is presented for the channel h → πa1. This quenched lattice QCD simulation employs Lüscher’s finite box method. Operators coupling to the h and πa1 states are used at various levels of smearing and fuzzing, and at four quark masses. Eigenvalues of the corresponding correlation matrices yield energy spectra that determine scatter...

We study the static three-quark (3Q) potential in detail using SU(3) lattice QCD with 12 × 24 at β = 5.7 and 16 × 32 at β = 5.8, 6.0 at the quenched level. For more than 200 patterns of the 3Q systems, we numerically derive 3Q ground-state potential V3Q from the 3Q Wilson loop with the smearing technique, which reduces excited-state contaminations. The lattice QCD data of V3Q are well reproduce...
